Finance Board Presentations
May 2009
We asked to the Board to put pressure on the Minister to keep the current
tuition fee policy. The AGC strongly supports the current policy and is
against any further increases in graduate student tuition.

March 2009
We continued discussions with the SFB on expanding scholarships to include
international graduate students.
We submitted a discussion document as well as support letters from the three
member GSAs.
Nov 2008
The AGC focused on 2 items:
1. Expanding provincially funded scholarships to International Students
2. Universal Research Allowance for all graduate students
Nov 2007
The AGC focused on 3 items:
1. A research allowance for all Grads
2. A provincial mirror for SSHRC to support underfunded 'Arts' Grads
3. Changes in Gov't loans, helping to relieve the increasing financial
pressures due to a constrained infrastructure
May 2007
Funding and representation were the main themes of AGC's presentation looking
at increasing research allowances and appointing a graduate student to the
Student Finance Board itself.
September
2006
The Alberta Graduate Council took a look at other jurisdictions for case
studies on alternate models for how Alberta could fund graduate students
better, and shared it with the Alberta Student Finance Board.
May 2006
Who are graduate students, and how can the Alberta student financial aid
system best support them was the focus of the Alberta Graduate Council's
presentation to the Student Finance Board.

Looking at individual case studies of graduate students, the Alberta Graduate
Council shows how the student financial aid system could work better and meet
the needs of graduate students.

The Alberta Graduate Council takes a look at the research of individual
Alberta graduate students, showing the new knowledge being generated in
various disciplines, and showing why student financial aid to graduate
students is important for Albertans.

The Alberta post-secondary system needs some key changes to better support
graduate students, and the Alberta Graduate Council put some recommendations
to the Student Finance Board.

2003
Improving the grants to graduate students and other recommendations would
make Alberta a more competitive place for graduate students, and the key role
they play in a diverse and prosperous province - the Alberta Graduate Council
put these before the Student Finance Board.
