October 27, 2008: Graduate Students - Building the Alberta
Advantage
The AGC sent all members of the Alberta Legislative Assembly a report
entitled Graduate Students: Building the Alberta Advantage. The
report outlines the AGC's top three priorities along with general information
about the AGC and Alberta's graduate students.
September 28, 2008: AGC Chair Report to
Member Councils
Starting in September 2008, the Chair of the AGC will submit a report to each member institution's
representative council.

The Alberta Graduate Council presented on its history and goals as well as the

AGC
welcomes Minister Doug Horner
The Alberta Graduate Council wrote the new Minister of Advanced Education and
Technology Doug Horner in December 2006, welcoming him to the portfolio and
offering some suggestions to hit the ground running in his first months on
the job.
AGC calls
on the U of L to support campus daycare
A daycare is a crucial part of ensuring that a campus community is welcoming
to students with children, and is vital to graduate recruitment and retention
at Alberta's universities. the Alberta Graduate Council wrote in November
2006 a letter of support urging the University of Lethbridge's board of
governors to support the creation of a daycare on campus.
AGC
nominates Erik Saude to the SFB
Graduate students are currently the only group of students unrepresented on
the Student Finance Board's membership, and in June 2006 AGC nominated Erik
Saude to sit on the board to rectify that omission.

The Alberta Graduate Council presented to the University of Alberta Graduate
Students' Association on AGC and what it does for members.
AGC
Presentation to the Standing Policy Committee on Education and Employment
In April 2006 the Alberta Graduate Council made a key presentation to the SPC
on Education and Employment, a government committee that determines the
policy on education issues in Alberta. AGC made several recommendations to
improve graduate student funding, recommendations that graduate students
expect will be a part of the Government of Alberta's future plans surrounding
improving the affordability of graduate school. Read our summary to the SPC for an overview of
what recommendations were made.
AGC Submission
to A Learning Alberta
The Alberta Graduate Council was a key participant in the Government of
Alberta's review of post-secondary education, A Learning Alberta. In
July of 2005 the Alberta Graduate Council made a submission to the review committee
listing several recommendations for change for graduate students and the
system as a whole. Graduate students were also invited to the Minister's
Forum that was the culmination of hard work over the summer of 2005 - read
our thank you for participating at the
forum.
